Peace Sheep Update 16, and More Starry Skies

Hi everyone! Just a quick little update today while the babe is napping. A bit more on Mary's Sampler:

I've finished the border along the top and stitched a couple more stars.

And I have a finish!

This is Peace, stitched as part of the Little Sheep Virtues SAL, at a little more than 1600 stitches. I just finished stitching the sheep and sewed on the little bird button at the top. This one really felt like it took forever to finish!

I need to take the Bunka brush to it and then finish it off so it can join my flock. Seven down, five to go!

Hope you're all staying cool/warm (depending on which part of the world you're in)! It's gross and dusty and humid all at the same time here. Sometimes I think I should work for the tourism board of Dubai :D

Big hugs,

Peace Sheep Update 15, and Some Twinkling Stars

Hi folks! Hope you're all doing well. It's officially the start of summer, but it feels like it's been summer here forever already. There is no end to this heat and humidity, and to top it off they just issued a sand storm warning! Just taking groceries out of my car and into the building makes me feel like I'm being baked alive.

Needless to say, I've been spending a lot of time indoors with the baby. He's six months old today! I can't believe it. He's growing up so quickly. He can already stay sitting by himself without toppling over, and you can just see how impatient he is that he can't walk or run or jump around. This is an active baby!

I've got some stitching progress to show for myself. First, Mary's Sampler:

I've put in a few more stars and extended the border down the left. I'm really enjoying this piece. I don't know why my pictures keep coming out so bright, though! It doesn't look this bright in real life.

And I'm so, so, so close to a finish with the Little Sheep Virtues SAL!

This is Peace at 1500 stitches. I'm about halfway through the sheep now. I'm stitching him with Wisper thread as I've done with all the sheep, but I decided to make this one tan, just to make it interesting. Too many white sheep in this series!

Happy xxx's,

Peace Sheep Update 14, and the June Gifted Gorgeousness SAL

Wow, we've made it halfway through the year already! 2016 is just flying by in a whirl of diapers and long sleepless nights. Somehow it's the 15th of June, which means it's time for the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL, Jo from Serendipitous Stitching's baby - we stitch on something that's been gifted to us through exchanges or giveaways, whether a pattern, kit, fabric, floss, whatever, and post on the 15th of the month.

For most of last year and this year, I was stitching on Prairie Schooler's Two By Two (you can see my last update post here). But I needed a new project, so I went digging through my stash. I've had to take out my shoehorn a bit! Last year my father saved himself a headache: he gave me money on my birthday and told me to buy whatever I wanted for myself. So I went on a stashing mission and bought a few things, including Plum Street Sampler's Party Tarts. This was technically a gift, so technically it fits right in with GG!

I'm stitching these with the recommended GAST colors. I think this project is appropriate, considering the elections coming up later this year. I'm hoping to get both tarts done by then - wish me luck!

I've also got my usual snail's-pace update on the Little Sheep Virtues SAL:

This is Peace at 1400 stitches. All I've done is work on the border. There's only a tiny bit left, plus the body of the sheep, and then I'm done! Hopefully this will be a finish next week.

The first picture is more true to the color of the fabric. This keeps happening with my camera - it washes out all the colors. Oh well!

Lots of love,

Peace Sheep Update 13, and a New, Long-Overdue Start

I don't get a lot of time on my hands these days, but there are pockets of time when the baby is napping and I can take a few minutes to breathe, relax, maybe watch a little TV...and I need something to keep my hands busy! So I went digging around for something to start, and I found a little folder on my laptop of a bunch of freebies I've accumulated. One of them was Plum Street Sampler's Christmas freebie from two years ago, Mary's Sampler.

I love the way this piece looks, and I especially love the way it looks on dark fabric:

So I had a rummage through my stash, found this mystery piece of dark blue evenweave, and got going. I'm doing the smaller version, Mary's Sampler I. Here's my progress so far:

I think I frogged that first star on top 10,000 times. I started with the charted colors, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I tried to use my own choices, but then I started doubting myself, so I went back to charted, but I REALLY didn't like it, so I gave myself a stern talking-to, sat down, and got more serious about picking a nice palette. Looooonnnnnnggggggg story short, this is what it looks like now.

I'm using DMC for this, and so far the grass is 730 (as charted), the flowers are alternating between 3721 and 3722, the first star is 712, 676, and 783 (out to in), and the other two stars are 676, 783, and 780 (out to in).

I've also got a bit of progress on the Little Sheep Virtues SAL:

This is Peace at 1300 stitches. So close to a finish now! The border is slowly creeping to an end, and I've stitched the sheep's legs and the butterflies at the top (I think they're butterflies? I don't know why their heads are green...)

Big hugs,
