Quilt Square 39

The weather has been so strange lately... By this time, the end of April, we would usually be well into summer weather - overwhelming heat, temperatures in the low 40s-high 30s Celsius, nearly 90% humidity. But this past weekend we had the most bizarre thunderstorm. This is the country where we get rain MAYBE twice a year, usually in December. Not that I'm complaining - it's beautiful and refreshing and I love it. It's just so weird!

Anyway, I got some more stitching done on the American Flag Quilt!

This is Nebraska, the Cornhusker State. This is the 37th state, admitted to the union on March 1, 1867.

Oh my goodness, there was so much backstitching on this square! It took me hours to finish it. That's the one thing about this sampler - as much as I love it, there's an enormous amount of backstitching to do. It is necessary for the design of the squares to pop, though!

The craft fair is in a couple of days! I'm so excited. It's on Friday (our weekend is Friday-Saturday), from noon to 9pm. These next couple of days are going to be busy getting table covers, price tags, receipt books, plastic bags... Whew!

Stitchy kisses,

Quilt Square 38

Whew, it's been a busy couple of days! I went to watch my husband play in his company's sports tournament Thursday night. Within three minutes of his soccer game, he and another player tripped over one another, and he managed to twist his ankle. It didn't look so bad, so he kept playing (and his team actually won the basketball tournament). We came home, put some medicine on it, and wrapped it up.

But the next morning it had swollen to the size of a tennis ball and was seriously bruised. I took him to the hospital just to make sure it wasn't broken or fractured. An x-ray later, we found out it was thankfully just a sprain. My DH was actually more upset that he wasn't going to be able to play sports for at least two weeks. Ah, men... You have to love their priorities!

I managed to get some more stitching done on the American Flag Quilt.

This is Nevada, the Silver State. This is the 36th state, admitted on the October 31, 1864.

Just wanted to thank you guys too for your sweet, sweet comments about this WIP. You're all so encouraging, and it really keeps me motivated. Big hugs for everyone!

Keep on stitchin',

Quilt Square 37

After taking a break for a few days, I've picked the American Flag Quilt back up again. I apologize if I'm boring anyone - I really am just trying to get as much done as possible. It's such a big piece!

So today we're joined by West Virginia, the Mountain State. Having been admitted to the union on June 20, 1863, West Virginia makes it 35 states!! I've only got 15 more states to go!

I've already been scouring online stores to see what my next big piece should be (I know, I'm not even done with this one!) What do you guys suggest? Do you have any favorites you think I should try? I've been considering some Lizzie Kate designs, which I think look like a lot of fun... What do you think?

Much love,

Watercolor Stitches

Another sister birthday scarf! I've made one already, the red, white, and blue striped one I finished in January for my first sister. This time it's for my baby sister, whose birthday is today! Yikes, she's 17 already - I feel so old...

Anyway, I used one ball of Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Watercolor that I got last summer when I was in the States. The colors are positively gorgeous, and I think they'll suit her really well.

I cast on 30 stitches on 5mm knitting needles, and I kept going until the ball of yarn ran out and it was 45 inches long. Not bad for one ball, huh?

Only one more sister to go! I love this - knitting is so soothing, and I get something pretty at the end of the process.

Knitting hugs,

A Beautiful Surprise

Yesterday I went by the post office, and a wonderful little surprise was waiting for me! Lija from Stitching in Crosses and More had sent me a gorgeous handmade thank-you card. She won my giveaway a couple of months ago, and was sweet enough to make me this card!

Big stitching hugs!

Quilt Square 36

First off, hello new followers! Welcome to my humble little blog...

Now, I have more progress on the American Flag Quilt. I know it must be boring just to look at the same WIP, and God knows I get bored sometimes, but I'm really determined to finish it this year. Between that goal, work, family stuff, getting ready for the craft fair... I don't have much time for any other projects!

So this is Kansas, the 34th state, nicknamed the Sunflower State. It was admitted to the union on January 29, 1861.

This may be my favorite square to date. I know I've said that about a few squares, but this one is just so pretty! I love the colors and the pattern.

Craft fair update: I spent last week gathering the pieces I was going to sell - I had them tucked away in different spots around the house. Half the table is going to be my cross-stitched pieces, and the other half is going to be these great knitted socks and hats my mother-in-law makes. Yesterday I found some great cards that I'm going to use as price tags. All I have left to do is pay the rent for the table and figure out how to display everything (I'm thinking baskets...)

Have a great stitching time!

Quilt Square 35

Hello stitchers! How are you guys? Not much has been going on here. I've just been busy working and stitching on the American Flag Quilt.

This newest block is Oregon, the Beaver State (that is a really strange nickname, by the way). It was admitted in on  February 14, 1859, making it the 33rd state.

This was relatively easier to stitch up, although there was a LOT of backstitching!

I'm still really enjoying this piece, but I've got the craft fair coming up and I've still got to prepare everything... Busy, busy, busy!

Lots of stitchy love,

Quilt Square 34

I've picked up the American Quilt Flag again! I am so in love with this piece. Every time I put it aside for a while and then pick it back up, I realize how great it is and how much fun it is to stitch!

So this new square is Minnesota, the 32nd state. The North Star State was admitted to the union on May 11, 1858.

I love how bold the colors are on this square! It was a blast to stitch up.

Stitchy happiness,
